JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
Mass Academy seeks a visiting scholar with a background in education and one or more STEM content areas to support our academic program. The visiting scholar will also work with our team to enhance our outreach programs within the greater Worcester community, as well as foster partnerships with community organizations and build academic enrichment opportunities to strengthen and diversify the STEM pipeline.

This is a one-year appointment with possible extension.

About Mass Academy
The Massachusetts Academy of Math and Science (Mass Academy) is a tuition-free, co-educational, public school of excellence that enrolls approximately 100 academically accelerated 11th and 12th grade students from Massachusetts. Math and science are emphasized within a comprehensive, interactive academic program. Rigorous junior year classes and senior classes taken at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) prepare students for college academics before they've graduated from high school.

JOB DESCRIPTION
  • support our STEM I research course as a project advisor
  • serve as co-teacher for the STEM II Assistive Technology course
  • work with students in support of the lead teacher in Physics, Computer Science, and/or Math
  • teach CAD (SolidWorks) to students
  • run and maintain our maker lab
  • teach/advise 1-2 extracurricular activities per term in both academic and non-academic areas of their strength
  • work closely with community partners in the Worcester area to develop enrichment and learning opportunities for middle school students with a focus on strengthening and diversifying the STEM pipeline
  • participate in outreach activities, as well as more coordinated and sustained academic enrichment programs
  • represent Mass Academy at community outreach events
  • develop mentoring, internship, and community service opportunities
  • develop summer programs for middle school students
  • other duties as assigned


REQUIREMENTS
  • Qualified candidates will have a background in a STEM field and demonstrate a passion for supporting all learners through a culturally responsive lens. Detailed knowledge of 3D printing technology and CAD is strongly preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree or beyond preferred. Massachusetts DESE licensure, or the ability to meet the licensure requirements, required.
  • Work and/or teaching experience in physics, mathematics, engineering, robotics and/or other related fields is preferred. Experience mentoring and/or teaching students from diverse backgrounds preferred. Experience working with high school and middle school students preferred.
  • Ideal candidates will embody Mass Academy's mission and core values. Ability to work collaboratively required.
