DIVISION NAME
Worcester Polytechnic Institute - WPI

JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
A 2-year NIH-funded post-doctoral fellow position is available immediately for a highly-motivated candidate with proven track record to join the Laboratory of Systems Neuroscience and Chemical Biology at Worcester Polytechnic Institute. Research in our laboratory is highly interdisciplinary and utilizes C. elegans as a model system to understand how biogenic chemical signals regulate innate social behaviors at cellular and circuit levels. Our research aims to understand how the nervous system processes environmental stimuli with respect to its internal states to encode and integrates social information.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Topics of interest include understanding the neural circuitry underlying sex-specific social behaviors and the role of neuro-modulation and social experience in social behaviors. Current projects involve whole brain imaging of neural activity and quantitative measurements of behavior. Candidates can also propose new areas of investigation that are feasible within the research interests of the lab. Please visit our website for further details and representative publications http://labs.wpi.edu/srinivasanlab/.

Our laboratory is located in Gateway Park at WPI, which houses faculty from several departments including Biology and Biotechnology, Biomedical Engineering, Bioinformatics and Computational Biology, and Biochemistry, providing a vibrant and collaborative environment. We also interact very closely with the Neurobiology and Molecular Medicine programs at UMASS Medical located just a few minutes from our campus.

Applicants should hold a PhD degree in Genetics or Neuroscience and have strong laboratory, analytical, and communication skills. Ideally, the applicant will have a biological training in neurophysiology and calcium imaging with expertise in molecular biology (prior experience with C. elegans is a plus but not essential).

WPI is passionate about creating an inclusive workplace that promotes and values diversity. We are looking for candidates who can support our commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion.

Required application materials include: curriculum vitae; a brief summary of past, current research interests and accomplishments and future goals; contact information of two to three references; and desired start date. Inquiries can be submitted to: Prof. Jagan Srinivasan, Associate Professor, Department of Biology and Biotechnology Email: jsrinivasan@wpi.edu
