Laboratory technician to perform flow cytometry and microbial cell culture experiments.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Farny Lab at Worcester Polytechnic Institute is looking to hire a research technician with expertise in flow cytometry, microbial cell culture, and molecular biology techniques, to work on an EPA-funded project to understand the relationship of genetically modified bacteria to the natural soil microbiome. This is a part-time, temporary (8-month) position. Applicants with existing knowledge and skills necessary to execute microbial flow cytometry experiments are strongly preferred.

Qualifications:

A bachelor's degree in biology or a related discipline
2-3 years of laboratory experience (relevant undergraduate research experience is acceptable).
Organizational skills (lab organization, keeping orderly research notes, etc)
Communication skills (writing research reports, making oral and poster presentations)
Demonstrated experience with the following techniques:
- Flow cytometry
- Microbial cell culture
- Spectrometry
- DNA isolation and analysis
- Media preparation
