The College of Southern Nevada, Western High Tech Center Campus, is recruiting for an Equipment Mechanic II to support operations in the Air Conditioning Technologies Program.

Under direct supervision, The Equipment Mechanic II responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Maintain, repair, and modify equipment used in an educational lab setting comprised of a variety of light, medium, and heavy air conditioning maintenance equipment as well as specialized knowledge in air conditioning equipment and machinery including, compressors, computerized testing equipment, and cleaning equipment.
  • Troubleshoot extent of component or system failure through pressure and temperature checks, visual inspection, use of diagnostic equipment, and reference to technical service manuals, service information bulletins, blueprints and schematic manuals.
  • Diagnose malfunction and order parts required for repairs by researching parts manual to locate proper parts, contact vendors if necessary, and complete purchase requisitions.
  • Make repairs to AC or Refrigeration lab equipment as required to prepare components for lab and classroom use.
  • Ensure equipment and tools are in proper working order, and safety standards are practiced prior and during class, per course instructor specifications.
  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair lab tools and equipment; ensuring tools, equipment and materials are ready for classes.
  • Submit work orders to campus facilities to ensure classroom and lab occupancy.
  • All other duties as required.


Minimum Qualifications:
  • Completion of a recognized automotive/equipment repair apprentice-ship program; OR completion of the Equipment Mechanic-In-Training program in Nevada State service; OR one year experience as an Equipment Mechanic I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Extensive experience sourcing and procuring hard to find parts and tools.
  • Experience working in an educational or college setting.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, service environment.
  • EPA Certification.


Scheduled Weekly Hours:

Monday - Friday

2:00pm - 10:00pm

Subject to change based on the needs of the college.

Starting Salary:

CBA - A, Grade 31, Step 1 - $50, 446.08

Per Nevada Administrative Code (NAC 284.170), salaries for initial appointments for classified positions typically begin at Step 1.
