JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
As a member of the Talent and Inclusion team, the Director of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) reports directly to the Assistant Vice President of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (AVPDEIB). The DEIB will partner with colleagues to define and cultivate an organizational culture that is collaborative, inclusive, empowering, and culturally sensitive to help recruit and retain staff and faculty of color at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI). Play a strategic part in scaling, sustaining, and maintaining DEIB that align with WPI's values and goals.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Position Responsibilities:

Specific Responsibilities:
  • Serve as a thought partner with the AVPDEIB and other members of the Talent and Inclusion team to execute a university-wide, forward-looking vision and mission that centers DEIB.
  • Create and facilitate effective DEIB-related trainings with a focus on building cultural competency of staff and faculty.
  • Implement plans that ensure equitable internal practices to support DEIB.
  • Develop and deliver/facilitate DEIB workshops in collaboration with Talent &Inclusion colleagues and others across campus.
  • Work with the Talent and Inclusion team to create, administer, and review DEIB-related human resource strategies for hiring, onboarding, performance management, employee benefits and development of a diverse workforce at WPI.
  • Share best practices and research and recommend creative strategies to achieve DEIB-related goals.
  • Develop and archive DEIB marketing materials, resource guides, and events within WPI and to the public.
  • Lead the newly formed Staff and Faculty of Color Affinity groups, and identify additional affinity groups that would support a climate of inclusion for faculty and staff inclusion.
  • Support the AVPDEIB on internal communications for staff related DEIB topics.
  • Write summative proposals and reports on DEIB-related activities at WPI.
  • Perform other work-related duties as assigned.



Desired Credentials:
  • A master's degree in higher education, sociology, organizational behavior/management or related field preferred.
  • At least 5 years of experience in a DEIB role, with 2 years in leadership preferred.
  • Knowledge of best practices related to recruiting and retaining faculty and staff of color.
  • Experience creating and leading diverse employee Affinity groups.
  • Passion for developing a sustainable DEIB mission at a higher education institute.
  • Experience developing culturally relevant promotional materials and resource guides.
  • Experience working with diverse constituents..


Skills and Experience:
  • Able to lead change at a university level on topics related to DEIB, and engaging teams to address challenges.
  • Experience in developing curriculum for workplace DEIB workshops.
  • Experience in effectively initiating and leading uncomfortable inclusion-based conversations with stakeholders at all levels.
  • An entrepreneurial and flexible attitude with the capacity to creatively solve problems.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent project management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with demonstrated ability turn recommendations into actions.
  • Possess diplomacy and have a collaborative mindset with a desire to be a proactive leadership team member.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
