JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
Reporting to the Assistant Dean of Student Success, the Director of Academic Programming and Student Transitions is an institutional leader in developing, implementing, and assessing student success programming and initiatives specifically for first year, second year, and transfer undergraduate students. In this new position, the director will develop a holistic and integrated first and second year program that ensures students transition well and thrive at WPI. This position is an integral member of the academic advising office, by helping students identify resources to support them in their academic, career, and personal goals as they interactively engage in the local and global environment. We are a collaborative team with an ongoing focus of deepening our understanding of the intersectional identities of all members of our WPI community. JOB DESCRIPTION

Responsibilities:
  • Identify opportunities to collaborate with students, staff, and faculty to facilitate the holistic educational development of students as well their physical, mental, and emotional well-being.
  • Develop and implement best-practice and data-informed programming for new students.
  • Coordinate onboarding communication plan to newly enrolling students (FY and transfer).
  • Collaborate with staff, faculty, and students to cohesively integrate academic advising related programming and events in the first and second year.
  • Implement a successful onboarding experience for new students including reducing and resolving institutional barriers to improve the WPI experience.
  • Develop data dashboards to assess the academic success of new students.
  • Work with the Office of Admissions to identify opportunities to educate and support prospective and admitted students and families.
  • Collaborate with academic departments to ensure there is appropriate capacity in academic courses for new students.
  • Coordinate the course registration process for new students.
  • Supervise 3 staff members with core responsibilities in first year advising, second year programming, and transfer student success.
  • Provide supplemental academic advising support to a caseload of undergraduate students.
  • Provide academic coaching for a caseload of students on academic probation and academic warning.
  • Provide options for students pertaining to course selection. Connect students with faculty advisors and resources.
  • Perform other duties as assigned including occasional evening and weekend hours


Qualifications or Desired Qualifications:

  • A Master's degree preferred (Bachelor's required). At least 5 years' experience in academic advising and/or student development at the college level preferred.
  • 3 years of experience supervising professional staff preferred.
  • Applicants must have demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace and/or commitment to do so as an employee at WPI.
  • An ability to communicate effectively with students, faculty, staff, and parents; needs to be able to handle sensitive situations with confidentiality.
  • Must be comfortable in a technological based educational environment.
  • Ability to work in a team centered and collaborative environment.
