JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
The Community Manager for Education Equity & Access is an integral team member of both the STEM Education Center and Mass Academy of Math and Science in enabling equitable and inclusive teaching in STEM with PreK-12+ educators and in building equitable STEM pathways for students from underrepresented groups. The Community Manager will coordinate learning experiences and programs with multiple stakeholders in the Worcester-area community, and will also manage the ASPIRE-RC program that builds the capacity for inclusive and diverse STEM faculty at community colleges.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Responsibilities:
  • Build and manage relationships in the local community for teaching experiences for the Teacher Preparation Program and for equitable STEM pathways in K-12
    • Set up and manage pre-practicum experiences for Teacher Preparation Program (TPP) students in the local community (e.g., afterschool programs, community-based organizations) to provide access to high-quality STEM learning opportunities for K-12 students and community engagement for WPI students
    • Collaborate with community partners on behalf of Mass Academy of Math and Science to develop and implement academic support programs for middle school students to strengthen and diversify STEM pathways
    • Build TPP practicum (i.e., student teaching) placement and hiring pipelines with secondary schools in the local area


  • Promote and support PreK-16 teachers in developing equitable and inclusive STEM curriculum and instructional practices
    • Coordinate the development of curriculum and assessment on Culturally Responsive Pedagogy for pre-service teachers (Teacher Preparation Program) and for Professional Development (PD) offerings for in-service educators
    • Coordinate the support for TPP students, mentor teachers, and program supervisors in equitable STEM learning practices and assessment
    • Oversee the development of learning modules on Culturally Responsive Pedagogy for seminars, workshops, and Communities of Practice (CoP) for the ASPIRE-RC program


  • Manage the Worcester area ASPIRE-RC program (grant funded) for building capacity for inclusive and diverse STEM faculty at community colleges
    • Cultivate and maintain partnerships with local Higher Ed. Partners (e.g., Quinsigamond Community College, Worcester State University, Clark University, etc.) for recruitment of program participants
    • Coordinate trainings on teaching inclusively for diverse learners in STEM in higher ed. for Worcester area graduate students and postdocs
    • Oversee recruitment, selection and matching of mentors and mentees
    • Conduct periodic check-ins with program mentors and mentees
    • Coordinate ASPIRE-RC events (e.g., class observations, cohort meetings)
    • Manage grant budget (e.g., stipends) and quarterly program assessment
    • Write periodic reports for stakeholders and funding agency


  • Foster Equitable and Inclusive Pathways for STEM Learning Opportunities with WPI
    • partner with Undergraduate Studies and Office of Diversity, Inclusion, and Multicultural Education (ODIME) in innovative academic opportunities that support students from underrepresented groups
    • coordinate with the Office of Undergraduate Studies to support mentor and instructor training programs for early research experiences designed for students from marginalized groups and/or are first generation
    • in collaboration with Mass Academy of Math and Science, coordinate mentoring opportunities for middle school students


  • Be in integrated team member of the STEM Education Center and Mass Academy of Math and Science to collectively work to transform STEM education with an equity lens
  • Perform other duties as needed or required


Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in STEM, Education, Social Sciences, or related field required
  • Commitment to building equitable, diverse, and inclusive STEM learning opportunities and communities
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain relationships with stakeholders and organizations
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral) to work with students, teachers, school administrators, higher ed. faculty & staff, and community members


Preferences:
  • Masters degree in STEM, PreK-12 education, higher education leadership, social sciences, or related field preferred
  • 3 years of experience in relevant education equity, access, and community work
  • Experience with cultivating relationships across a broad range of educational institutions and organizations
  • Ability to work with people of varying levels of buy-in on an initiative to ultimately achieve goals
  • Demonstrated experience with diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging, and justice within the context of educational institutions
  • Familiarity with MA public school systems and community colleges


Salary Range: $65,000- $75,000, commensurate with experience
