JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
Assist the Career Development Center with facilitating career development and services to undergraduate and graduate students, and alumni through appointments, drop-ins, workshops, and other programming.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Responsibilities:
  • Provide comprehensive career counseling and services on career-related issues including developing resumes, cover letters, job search strategies, interviewing skills, career counseling, internships and cooperative education, full-time employment, graduate school opportunities, networking strategies, salary and job negotiations and other related information to students and alumni
  • Train students on the use of career software, including, but not limited to Handshake, LinkedIn, and other career related software
  • Develop, present and facilitate workshops, seminars and programs on career development, resume writing, interviewing, job search strategies, and other topics
  • Communicate with students, alumni, faculty and staff regarding career opportunities
  • Administer and interpret career assessment tools using Focus2 on personality, interests, skills, and values
  • Stay up to date on current employment trends
  • Participate in university committees and projects
  • Assist the CDC with employer research and outreach efforts as appropriate
  • Assist in the gathering of student outcome data through survey, phone calls and student interaction
  • Effectively represent the CDC to various on and off campus groups
  • Assist with summer projects as assigned on both student and employer teams
  • Perform other duties as assigned


Requirements:
  • Master's degree preferred in student personnel administration, higher education, related field or equivalent training and experience
  • Applicants must have demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace and/or commitment to do so as an employee at WPI.
  • A passion for working with college students on their career development journey.
  • Experience in providing programming and counseling with multicultural, underrepresented and international student populations
  • Excellent verbal/written communication skills; able to work with internal and external communities
  • Ability to communicate effectively to present information to small and large groups
  • Experience in computer systems, word processing, spreadsheets and database management, Handshake, Career Shift, Going Global, and additional career search programs preferred
  • Experience working in a collaborative, team-oriented environment as well as the ability to work independently
  • Ability to adapt and support working in a changing environment
  • Availability to work evening/weekend hours to support office initiatives, especially during the academic year
