JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
Responsible for the collaborative development, implementation, and supervision of a comprehensive student activities program which meets the needs of a diverse university community. The assistant director promotes involvement opportunities in student organizations that contributes to the personal growth and development of students, administers community service initiatives for the institution, and works in partnership with other staff to ensure the health of the fraternity/sorority community. This person also encourages diversity, creativity and innovation in program planning, collaborates with multiple campus departments, and encourages ethical decision making among student leaders.

JOB DESCRIPTION
  • Provide leadership and support to the fraternity and sorority community through advising the Interfraternity Council and all fraternity chapters on campus.
  • Support and create leadership programs for the fraternity/sorority community such as the Foundations new member retreat, and attendance at the Northeast Greek Leadership Association Annual Conference.
  • Support the fraternity/sorority community in planning and implementing annual community wide events such as the Greek Carnival, Greek Week, Work on Worcester, Ritual Week and Greek Awards.
  • Work with and support the Greek Alumni Council through the facilitation of housing and alumni roundtables.
  • Create and support departmental publications such as the greek life guide, greek life newsletters, and student organization training modules.
  • Plan and implement fraternity/sorority risk management, leadership, and new member education initiatives.
  • Serve as a conduct officer for organization cases.
  • Co-advise WPI SMART to promote alcohol education and positive bystander behavior.
  • Supervise all aspects of the community service program including creating and advertising community service work-study program opportunities, the community service van transport program, and the community service fair.
  • Identify, plan, and publicize community service opportunities for all students.
  • Assist with all aspects of recruiting and placing students and student organizations in volunteer and work-study positions with various community agencies.
  • Effectively publicize and promote community service initiatives, including the website, advertisements, social media, and online newsletter.
  • Hire, train, schedule, and supervise student employees who drive the community service van and work on community service initiatives.
  • Support the Exploradreams and Robokids program, mentoring programs for children in Worcester.
  • Assist in the planning and organization of service break trips.
  • Serve as a resource to all student organizations, and process all entertainment contracts.
  • Effectively use reflection and assessment of students engaged in service and fraternity/sorority life.
  • Serve as a member of the Student Organization Council (SOC).
  • Oversee the planning and execution of department sponsored social justice programming.
  • Support in the oversite of department based leadership programs including lunches, certificate programs, and workshops.
  • Ensure university financial policies and procedures are adhered to by student organizations.
  • Participate in departmental and division of Student Affairs activities. Serve on division or campus wide committees as appropriate. Serve as a member of the Administrator-On-Call group as coordinated through the Dean of Students Office.
  • Provide appropriate supervision for student activities, including some evening/weekend programs.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree required a Master's degree in Student Personnel Services or related field preferred.
  • One to three years' professional experience in student activities, including graduate work.
  • Experience working with fraternities and sororities preferred, but not required. Values the importance of community service as a component of the educational experience.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills and organization skills are a necessity.
  • Value of teamwork in a fast pace, energetic, and dynamic office environment are a necessity.
