Purpose:

The School of Engineering at Santa Clara University invites applicants for a full-time academic year adjunct lecturer (AYAL) position beginning Fall 2024. The full-time teaching load is a total of 9 course equivalents per academic year - taught over 3 academic quarters.

Basic Qualifications

The candidate should have an earned Ph.D. (or equivalent) in civil or mechanical engineering or a related field and should have demonstrated an interest and evidence of excellence in teaching courses.

Preferred Qualifications

An understanding of the Santa Clara teaching model and demonstrated excellence in teaching at the university level. Experience with inclusive pedagogical practices that advances SCU diversity goals.

Responsibilities

Teaching duties include but are not limited to:

A. Teach introductory mechanics courses and possibly AutoCAD. Would include coordination with other faculty regarding lesson content and delivery. Expertise in any area of civil engineering is regarded.

B. Teach a total of nine course equivalents per academic year.

C. Conduct all assigned class meetings and assign and grade class assignments and exams.

D. Hold weekly office hours on campus and be available to students.

E. Assign and submit student grades to the registrar by the designated deadline.

F. Conduct course assessments as required by the department.

G. Fulfill other instructional, academic, or service activities (e.g., department meetings, committee service, and participation in special events such as Preview Day, Open House, Senior Project Presentations, and departmental/school events).
