JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
The Access & Outreach Archivist manages all records in the WPI Archives' content management system (ArchiveSpace), documents and ensures consistent practices for collection description, coordinates the migration and publication of collection finding aids, and oversees many public service elements of the department. The position will also serve as a liaison to campus and student groups to enhance the institutional archives by documenting, preserving, and sharing the records of campus groups formed around a shared self-identity. The position will work with the Digital Repository and Metadata Librarian to ensure quality control of metadata and prioritize dissemination of material via the digital repository, Digital WPI. This position supervises student assistants, and reports to the University Archivist / Assistant Director for Archives and Special Collections.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Manage the processing and metadata entry of both new and legacy manuscript and archival collections using Archives Space.
  • Support the marketing of Archives and Special Collections to the campus community and beyond via print and electronic outlets such as campus publications, press releases, or social media.
  • Oversee the fulfillment of Digital Reproduction Requests (DRR) for both the campus community and visiting researchers.
  • Oversee day to day operations of the Fellman Dickens Reading room and virtual service points including coordinating responses to in-person, telephone, instant message, or e-mail inquiries.
  • Gather statistics on reading room use, material circulation, and reference requests.
  • Conduct bibliographic sessions and provide one-on-one and group research consultations in-person and virtually.
  • Collaborate on the research, installation, and promotion of physical and digital exhibits in permanent galleries and for special events.
  • Serve on appropriate library and campus committees and working groups.
  • Participate in the recruitment, training, and supervision of student workers and volunteer staff.
  • Record donor gifts and departmental transfers into gift and accession logs as appropriate.
  • Participate in and contribute to library and WPI committees, initiatives, and goals, including the library's and the university's goals regarding equity, inclusion, and sustainability.
  • Engage in and contribute to the profession through continuing learning, service, research, presentations, or professional communications.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to meet department, library, and university goals and objectives.
  • Some evening and weekend hours may be required. Some remote work may be possible but most work will be performed in person / on site.
