Position description
The Center for Occupational and Environmental Health (COEH) in the School of Public Health, serves government, industry, schools, health professionals, and the general public through programs and partnerships designed to deepen understanding of occupational and environmental hazards and prevent disease, fatalities, and injuries. Activities are grounded in multi-campus (UC Berkeley, UC San Francisco, and UC Davis) and multidisciplinary teaching programs in medicine, nursing, public health, environmental health sciences, and related fields. These interdisciplinary activities educate future leaders in occupational and environmental health, develop new knowledge, and bring the resources of the University of California to the public.
The Northern California COEH seeks a highly experienced occupational and environmental health professional to lead collaborative activities across multiple disciplines on three UC campuses (Berkeley, Davis, and San Francisco), and provide direction and leadership for overall strategic planning and continuous program improvement.
Reporting to the COEH Director on the Berkeley campus, the Deputy Director duties include:

Qualifications Basic qualifications (required at time of application)
Master's Degree, or equivalent international degree.
Additional qualifications (required at time of start)
At least five years of professional experience.
Preferred qualifications
- Ph.D. or terminal medical degree.
- At least five years of experience in public health publishing results, reports, business contracts, operational deficiencies troubleshooting, and experience fundraising for academic research and educational programs.
- Experience in planning and conducting coordination with interdisciplinary collaborative research, training, and service efforts, overseeing interdisciplinary objectives and deliverables.
- Demonstrated ability to write grants, reports, and communications to high-level grant-dispensing institutions.
- Experience in financial management activities and demonstrated ability to write grants, reports, and communications to high-level grant-dispensing institutions.
- Is a respected leader in the field of occupational and/or environmental health and has well-established working relationships with key constituencies, including academic researchers, labor, community and employer organizations, and public agencies.
- Demonstrated strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to use discretion and maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to work cooperatively and collegially within a diverse environment.
- Has strong working knowledge of NIOSH Educational Resource Centers.
- Can demonstrate the ability to effectively identify, obtain, and manage funding knowledge of U.C. financials.
- Ability to prioritize, conduct, and manage multiple projects.
- Ability to oversee and mentor student assistants.
- Demonstrate a passion for educating the next generation of Occupational and Environmental Health leaders.
