The candidate will support a basic-translational research program focused on lung biology by analyzing high-throughput sequencing data, including bulk RNA-seq, single-cell RNA-seq, and spatial transcriptomics, to investigate gene expression and cellular dynamics in lung development and disease. This role involves close collaboration with bench scientists to design experiments, interpret biological data, and translate complex datasets into actionable scientific insights. The bioinformatician will develop and maintain reproducible computational pipelines, generate clear visualizations and reports, and ensure data integrity across all stages of analysis. The position requires both independent problem-solving and active engagement with the broader research team to advance the lab's scientific goals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate closely with Principal Investigators (PIs), clinicians, and cross-functional stakeholders to translate biological and clinical questions into effective analytical strategies and study designs.
- Provide subject-matter expertise in bioinformatics, biostatistics, and data science across the full research lifecycle, including experimental design, data analysis, interpretation, and manuscript preparation.
- Perform scientifically rigorous data management, integration, and analysis of multi-dimensional datasets, including genomics and -omics data (e.g., RNA-seq, single-cell, spatial transcriptomics, proteomics, epigenomics, microbiome).
- Design, develop, and implement complex, reproducible data analysis pipelines and workflows using modern programming languages (e.g., R, Python, Bash) and containerization tools (e.g., Docker, Singularity).
- Apply statistical, computational, and biological knowledge to select appropriate methods, tools, and libraries for analyzing next-generation sequencing (NGS) and other biomedical datasets.
- Develop automation scripts, custom code, and efficient algorithms to process, analyze, and manage large-scale datasets, ensuring performance and reproducibility.
- Create intuitive data visualizations, interactive dashboards, and reports (e.g., R/Python visualizations, Shiny apps, Quarto reports) to communicate findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Build and maintain software tools, web applications, and databases to support data access, tracking, analysis, and research workflows, including custom web tools and lab information systems.
- Manage code versioning and collaborative development using platforms such as GitHub, and follow best practices across the software development lifecycle (design, testing, deployment, maintenance).
- Integrate data from multiple sources to enable comprehensive analysis and accelerate scientific discovery.
- Independently identify and implement innovative solutions for bioinformatics, data management, and operational challenges.
- Support operational excellence by developing and improving processes, protocols, documentation (e.g., SOPs, workflows, training materials), and quality improvement initiatives.
- Train, mentor, and support junior team members, contributing to team development and knowledge sharing.
- Maintain research documentation, prepare materials and resources, and ensure data and process integrity.
- Identify and communicate opportunities for improving efficiency, data quality, and research outcomes to leadership.
- Serve as a key resource and advisor to investigators and stakeholders on bioinformatics tools, methods, and best practices.
