Sargent Colleges Department of Speech, Language & Hearing Sciences offers academic professional programs with a focus on preparing students for careers in health care. Reporting to the Department Chair, the department manager will work to ensure the efficient management and operational excellence of the academic unit and its dynamic community of faculty, researchers, and students. Working in collaboration with the Chair and Program Director, core responsibilities include management of budgets and coordination of department related activities, including helping to arrange student orientation/meetings, continuing education, conferences, direct workflow and workloads of all departmental student employees. Assist with faculty appointments, promotions, tenure applications, recruitments, and searches. Maintain departmental documentation in coordination with Department Chair and Program Directors. Schedule, plan and direct (as applicable) departmental meetings, events, and other special projects. Manage student employee payroll submission, order supplies, and process Concur expense reports. The Department Manager may also support educational and research-related activities on an as-needed basis. Essential Functions
- Manage the department budget, develop and implement systems to forecast, monitor allocations/expenses.
- Support Program Director and Chair on all instructional hiring each semester, including drafting and issuing offer letters to part-time lecturers and temporary employees.
- Support student success by providing general guidance about programs and program requirements, triaging student needs, questions and concerns to the appropriate faculty, advisor, or student support services office on campus.
- Coordinate and schedule program meetings and program specific events.
- Provide event coordination for department related activities, including student orientation/meetings, continuing education, faculty and staff recognition events, conferences (local/national, in-person/virtual assist Chair and Program Directors with departmental communications and preparing documentation, report, etc.)
- Assist PDs and Chair in tracking and summarizing data for programmatic learning outcomes, program accreditation needs, and the Departmental Annual Report.
- Assist with the planning and coordination of Faculty Search operations and logistics.
- Support with onboarding new employees, faculty and student workers
- Manage Procurement (course and office supplies, capital equipment, service and repair of equipment) on behalf of faculty and department
- Submit timely honoraria / part-time faculty (hiring/payment paperwork).
- Submit Concur Expense Reports (train faculty, edit for accuracy, process, review for Chair).
- Process and maintain confidential department materials including faculty appointments, tenure and promotion, salary, and student files
- Support Orientation and Student Events.
- Support Program Directors and Chair to monitor degree requirements, including updating student manuals and materials, reviewing transcripts, drafting deficiency letters for review, and preparing certification/licensure documents for graduating students and alums Requirements & Competencies.
- Bachelors Degree with 3-5 years of related experience.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Essential skills also include organization, time management, strong judgment, problem solving, exceptional attention to detail.
- A collaborative work approach with the ability to handle confidential materials with discretion.
- Ability to create positive relationships and work with colleagues, faculty, staff, and students from diverse backgrounds.
- Excellent problem solving and customer service skills.
- Ability to create a vibrant, welcoming atmosphere to ensure success, belonging, satisfaction, and engagement of students, faculty, guests, and visitors.
- Prior experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, and Zoom.
- Experience managing a budget.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team exercising initiative and judgment.
- Facility with data analysis. Comfort using quality data to help guide decision-making.

Required Skills
Bachelor's Degree and 2-3 years' experience required.
