Job Description
The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Hartford is seeking to fill a tenure-track assistant professor position in Computer Engineering with a focus on Embedded Systems and their application to Internet of Things beginning August 2026. Candidates are expected to have a doctoral degree, excellent potential and dedication to teaching, research, service, and professional activities.
Responsibilities
The successful applicant will ordinarily teach three courses per semester in engineering and engineering technology related to computer engineering, which may change based on departmental needs. There may also be opportunities to teach our innovative general education and interdisciplinary courses. An active scholarly research agenda with peer-reviewed publications, presentations, or other professional accomplishments are expected for successful tenure and promotion. Service to the department, college, and university typically includes advising students, contributing to student recruitment and retention, advising student capstone projects, and participating in program accreditation. Required Qualifications
Required:
- An earned doctorate in Computer Engineering or related discipline is required; ABDs will be considered providing the candidate documents a degree completion date.
Preferred:
- Experience teaching computer engineering or related engineering disciplines at the undergraduate level.
- Demonstrated potential to build an independent research program related to embedded systems and their application to Internet of Things that includes undergraduate students.
- Demonstrated potential to educate and mentor students from diverse backgrounds.
- Experience and/or demonstrated interest in course and curriculum development.
- Experience and/or demonstrated interest in student recruitment, retention, and career preparation.
- Applied and/or professional experience in embedded systems and Internet of Things.

The College of Engineering, Technology, and Architecture offers undergraduate Engineering programs in Electrical, Computer, Acoustical and Music, Biomedical, Civil, Mechanical, Aerospace, and Robotics. It also offers undergraduate Engineering Technology programs in Audio, Computer and Electronic, Electromechanical, as well as Architectural Design + Technology. Additionally, the college offers an undergraduate program in Computer Science, Computer Science and Engineering and Construction Management + Technology. The college also offers masters programs in Computer Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, as well as Architecture. The majority of our undergraduate programs are accredited by ABET, including the Architectural Design + Technology program. The Master of Architecture degree is accredited by the National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB). The University of Hartford is ideally situated in the heart of Connecticuts "Aerospace Alley," a registered trademark of the Aerospace Components Manufacturers group, one of the largest and most experienced concentrations of aerospace companies in the world. A sampling of OEMs near the University include Pratt & Whitney, Collins Aerospace, Kaman Aircraft, and Sikorsky - A Lockheed Martin Company. Many other aerospace companies are within a 30-minute drive from campus. The proximity of such a large group of aerospace companies to campus provides many opportunities for research and other industry collaborations
