Title:Postdoctoral Research Associate in Synthetic Medicinal Chemistry



The Riley Lab at the University of Illinois at Chicago (riley.lab.uic.edu) is searching for a postdoctoral research associate in synthetic medicinal chemistry. The successful applicant will contribute to ongoing projects in the area of pain, drug addiction, and other CNS-related diseases. In addition to performing synthetic chemistry, interested trainees will have the opportunity to learn and apply biological and pharmacological assays.

Key responsibilities and Duties:

  • Carry out organic syntheses for the preparation of synthetic intermediates and novel small molecules

  • Purify organic molecules using chromatography and other techniques

  • Characterize small molecules using analytical techniques (e.g., NMR, MS, etc.)

  • Perform receptor assays for GPCRs and/or ion channels (optional)

  • Keep records in laboratory notebook

  • Write technical reports and manuscripts

  • Conduct literature searches

  • Assist in mentoring junior researchers

  • Comply with University & Department safety policies

  • Maintain supplies, instrumentation, and other lab duties as assigned


Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. Degree in medicinal chemistry, organic chemistry, peptide chemistry, chemical biology, or a related field
