JOB DESCRIPTION

Responsibilities in Facilities Department (50% time):
  • Monitors energy markets and advises on energy purchasing strategies
  • Assists Manager of HVAC with Demand Management
  • Liaison with National Grid, Eversource, City Water, other utility companies
  • Utility Company Incentives and Rebates on capital projects
  • Manages Green Revolving Fund projects and other capital projects related to energy and utilities
  • Facilitates support and participation of the Facilities organization to achieve the goals of the Campus Sustainability Plan
  • Cogen Project assessment, execution, and start-up
  • Utilities Master Plan: Update and maintain the BR+A study, and identification of multi-year Infrastructure Upgrade Projects
  • Develop and maintain accurate campus utility and infrastructure maps
  • Other duties as assigned by Director of Ops


Responsibilities in Sustainability Office (50% time)

Assist the Director of Sustainability in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of sustainability programs at WPI, focusing on operational and community aspects. Assist with implementation of these aspects in the Plan for Sustainability at WPI. Assist in positioning WPI as a leader in sustainability efforts on campus and in the Worcester community. Specific tasks include:
  • Supports and facilitates University Sustainability goals and (ASHEE) initiatives.
    • Captures and formats data to support sustainability reporting (utility consumption, waste generation, GHG measurements) for both annual report and the periodic reporting of the operations component of STARS in partnership with Director of Sustainability
    • Engage IQP/MQP student teams for aspects of energy and utility management
    • May occasionally provide other support to the Office of Sustainability as directed by VP of Facilities
  • Oversees planning and management of Green Revolving Fund
    • Oversees Green Revolving Fund process and selection of projects
    • Project management
    • Financial accounting of GRF funds - interface with Finance Office
  • Assist with planning and monitoring of financial aspects related to sustainability, and assist in identifying cost savings for the institution through these activities.
  • Support the implementation of operational projects and practices that increase energy efficiency and reduce waste and resource usage.
  • Provide support to building projects registering for LEED, and provide documentation and ongoing support for LEED credits that rely on University practices and systems (i.e., educational programs, demand management programs, EV charging stations, Zip car program, etc.)
  • Assist with production of a comprehensive annual report on sustainability activities.
  • Work with the student-faculty-staff advisory group on sustainability to guide and support the sustainability efforts on campus.
  • Participate on various campus committees and offices to help increase awareness of sustainability.
  • Provide guidance and education for the community to engage in the transition toward a more sustainable campus environment.
  • Establish and incorporate sustainability concepts within operational policies and practices. Develop and implement guidelines for vendors and products with respect to sustainability.
  • Participate in sustainability-related professional development programs for faculty and staff
  • Other duties as assigned by Director of Sustainability


Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or relevant equivalent
  • 2-5 years professional experience or equivalent internship/student project work
  • Demonstrated interest and enthusiasm for sustainability initiatives
  • Ability to obtain LEED Accredited Professional credential in one year


Desired Skills:
  • Knowledge of ASHEE and greenhouse gas reporting
  • Understanding of energy markets, regulations, financial incentive programs
  • Project management skills
  • Knowledge of LEED framework
