JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
Responsible for acquisition and maintenance of supplies and equipment for the department and for coordination of facilities and activities related to undergraduate teaching and project laboratories.

JOB DESCRIPTION
  • Support laboratory exercises and lecture demonstrations.
  • Train students in the proper use and maintenance of teaching and project equipment.
  • Coordinate repairs/maintenance/upgrades of teaching and project equipment.
  • Routinely communicate with faculty regarding lab supplies, equipment, lab prep, and other course needs.
  • Responsible for the set-up and clean-up of supplies and equipment for all teaching and project laboratories.
  • Initiate purchase orders for supplies and equipment for teaching and project laboratories
  • Maintain accurate files of orders placed and received, operating/service manuals, inventory of departmental supplies and equipment and tracks problems as necessary.
  • Participate on committees such as the Project Presentation Day Committee.
  • Assist with summer camp programs with BME labs.
  • Assist with other programs such as REU, BME Outreach and Touch Tomorrow.
  • Serve as departmental safety officer.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Department Head or Laboratory Manager III.


Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering, Mechanics, Physics or a similar technical field.
  • The candidate should be able to assemble and disassemble a variety of equipment, etc., working with mechanical testing equipment, and learning to work with new devices. Preferred technical skills include uniaxial mechanical testing, cell culture, and biomaterial preparation and characterization.
  • Knowledge of software such as CAD, Matlab, Bluehill, Makerbot Print, etc.
  • The candidate must be able to work closely with students and faculty and have excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be able to relate well to all levels of the campus community. Able to quickly become proficient with the use of biomechanics teaching equipment such as mechanical test machines, force plates, motion tracking systems, and 3D printers.
  • Able to quickly become proficient with LabView, CAD, Blue Hill (Instron), Motion Monitor, LoggerPro, and other lab software.
