JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
The Community Director is a live-in professional responsible for assisting in the management of the Residential Services program. They assist with the selection and training of the in-residence paraprofessional staff, serve as primary supervisors and evaluators of these staff members. This position coordinates student and staff development and administrative functions in their respective areas including crisis intervention, conduct, and programming. The Community Director will also assist with housing operations and other departmental processes.

This is a full-time, one-year temporary benefited position.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Responsibilities:
  • Serve as the primary resource and support for students and staff residing in assigned residence halls.
  • Supervise Resident Advisors in both first year and upper class areas.
  • Conduct weekly staff meetings with Resident Advisors.
  • Conduct performance evaluations of paraprofessional staff.
  • Coordinate duty schedules and break coverage.
  • Oversee departmental community development initiatives.
  • Assist with the implementation of the residential portion of the First Year Experience program.
  • Serve as administrative hearing officer for residence hall conduct cases and housing contract violations.
  • Maintain the online database for residential conduct caseload.
  • Coordinate record keeping with the Dean of Students Office.
  • Work with Resident Advisors to mediate roommate disputes and student conflicts, as appropriate. Make referrals, as necessary.
  • Aid in housing related operations including opening and closing of the halls, occupancy reporting, room changes, and housing selection.
  • Participate in regular building condition assessment walk-throughs.
  • Perform regular health and safety inspections, end-of-year damage walkthrough, and damage billing process during academic year and end-of-year.
  • Serve in on call rotation on a regular basis and coordinate crisis intervention and response, as necessary.
  • Manage additional projects as assigned, including but not limited to:
    • Resident Advisor Training
    • Resident Advisor Selection
    • Residential Education Program Development
    • Residential Community development and expansion, such as Innovations, Wellness, etc.
  • Participate in summer opportunities as assigned, including but not limited to:
    • Supporting summer conferences while reporting to the Assistant Director of Operations.
    • August RA Training coordinating and scheduling
    • Summer student housing supervision
    • Benchmarking and researching residence life standards
    • Facilitating social media posts and residential communications
  • Contribute to the WPI community through understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion. Working to provide an inclusive community for all members of the residential community.
  • Assist in the day-to-day management of the Residential Services Office, as needed.
  • Professional Development opportunities - department growth and development program, conferences/webinars, campus-wide committees, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Requirements:
  • Master's Degree in college student personnel/higher education or related area preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Minimum of two years of residence hall experience preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and computer literacy required.
