Job Description
The College of Education, Nursing and Health Professions at the University of Hartford is seeking to fill a tenure-track assistant professor position in Exercise Science beginning August 2026. Candidates are expected to advance the strategic growth of the Exercise Science Program though innovative undergraduate teaching, student mentorship, active research with undergraduate involvement, interdisciplinary collaboration, and contributions to accreditation and inclusive excellence in teaching, research, and service.

Responsibilities
The successful applicant will ordinarily teach courses in Sport Nutrition, Clinical Exercise Testing, Exercise Prescription for Special Populations, Motor Control and/or Statistics for Exercise Science, which may change based on departmental needs. There may also be opportunities to teach our innovative general education and interdisciplinary courses. An active scholarly/research/artistic agenda with peer-reviewed publications, presentations, performances, exhibitions, or other accomplishments are expected for successful tenure and promotion. Service to the department, college, and university includes advising students, contributing to student recruitment and retention, and maintaining a current, evidence-based curriculum that reflects culturally responsive and inclusive practices. Candidates are expected to demonstrate a commitment to inclusive excellence, which the University defines as an unwavering commitment to fostering a vibrant campus community where every student, staff member, and faculty colleague feels deeply rooted, empowered to flourish, and inspired to achieve their highest potential.

Required Qualifications
Required:

  • An earned doctorate in a health-related field from an accredited institution at the time of appointment
  • Evidence of successful teaching experience in higher education on topics within exercise science.
  • Demonstrated scholarly or research agenda with potential for peer-reviewed dissemination.


Preferred:
  • PhD in Kinesiology, Exercise Physiology, or Exercise Science
  • Professional certification(s) relevant to exercise science, strength and conditioning, or sports medicine (e.g., NSCA, ACSM).
  • Demonstrated use of evidence-based and culturally responsive teaching strategies.
  • Experience mentoring undergraduate student research or applied projects.
  • Experience with program accreditation and/or curriculum development.
  • Ability to effectively teach and advise students from diverse backgrounds, in an inclusive learning environment.
  • Interest in interdisciplinary collaboration across health, education, and related fields.
