Job Summary:

Under the supervision of the Tutoring Center Manager, the coordinator is responsible for delivery of academic tutoring services related to the Science and Math and Manufacturing, Engineering and Advance Technologies fields of interest. The coordinator oversees the day-to-day operations of the center and supervises tutors to ensure high quality services are provided. The coordinator works collaboratively with other tutoring center coordinators to promote innovative tutoring strategies, respond to student needs, and foster awareness of and access to tutoring services. The coordinator supports CLC's Lancer Success Framework which fosters an inclusive student-ready environment that provides individualized, personalized and culturally relevant student learning experiences to facilitate students achieving their educational goals.

Job Description:

Management and Supervision 40%

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of tutoring in selected subject areas across campuses and online; ensure the center runs smoothly, meeting the needs of face-to-face and online students in a timely and professional manner.
  • Supervise tutors in selected subject areas; provide ongoing guidance and support to ensure quality in tutoring sessions; review and approve reported time. 
  • Determinestaffing needs for selected subject areas; create and manage tutor schedule; ensure staffing is appropriate to meet student needs across locations.
  • Recruit, select, train, and evaluate qualified tutors at all levels in collaboration with the Faculty Coordinator and Tutoring Manager. 
  • Facilitate the ongoing professional development of center staff through regular meetings and specialized training in collaboration with the Faculty Coordinator and Tutoring Manager.

Student and Customer Service 35%

  • Promote and create a welcoming, inclusive, and collegial learning environment at the tutoring center; assist tutors and students as needed. 
  • Promote center services to students, faculty, and staff in collaboration with the Faculty Coordinator and Tutoring Manager; conduct in-class orientations; offer consultations and workshops as needed. 
  • Respond in a timely manner to inquiries about the center or its staff, record concerns as required, and seek informal resolution that is satisfactory to all parties; escalate concerns to manager when appropriate. 
  • Collaborate with key campus partners including academic divisions, library, advising, TRIO SSS, and Access and Disability Resource Center to ensure effective and equitable support. 
  • Provide academic tutoring to students as needed; refer students for additional support services as needed.

Department Operations and Procedures 20%

  • Track and report on tutoring activities; ensure tutoring sessions are accurately recorded in the college's tracking system (Navigate); prepare semester and year-end reports; identify trends to strategically address student and center needs.
  • Assess procedures and staff performance to ensure quality of services; collaborate with manager and other coordinators to regularly evaluate tutoring procedures and programs; implement revised or new initiatives as needed.
  • Manage, in collaboration with other coordinators, day-to-day operations of the Tutoring Center; ensure facilities are set up to accommodate scheduled tutoring.
  • Actively participate in Tutoring Center staff meetings; research and recommend strategies to continuously improve services. 
  • Develop and document center procedures and best practices in collaboration with the Faculty Coordinator and Tutoring Manager; maintain reference materials to support tutoring. 

Other 5%

  • Contribute to college and departmental projects to promote student academic success. 
  • Represent the Tutoring Center and Division of Student Academic Support as a member of committees; participate actively in student-focused and community-oriented campus activities, including new student orientations and open houses.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned. 

Required Qualifications 

  • Bachelor's degree with the completion of coursework in mathematics 
  • Minimum of three (3) years of recent college-level teaching or college-level tutoring experience in math related area 
  • Knowledge of learning theory and best practices in tutoring pedagogy  
  • Ability to administer tutoring services in both in-person and online environments 
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate across all levels through strong verbal, written, and presentation skills  
  • Demonstrated ability to form effective partnerships, ability to collaborate with others and work in a team environment. 
  • Experience working independently, prioritizing workflow, solving problems and making decisions. 
  • Ability to work flexible hours including occasional evening and weekend hours consistent with department needs. 
  • Ability to work at each of CLC's campus locations (Grayslake, Lakeshore, Southlake, and Advanced Technology Center) on an as needed basis. 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office  
  • Proven ability to work effectively and constructively with persons of diverse cultures, language groups, and abilities; demonstrate sensitivity to and ability to work with the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities; establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

Desired Qualifications 

  • Master's degree, preferably in math related area 
  • Coursework through the calculus sequence  
  • Experience working in a community college 
  • Bilingual Spanish

Schedule

8:00am - 4:30pm Monday - Friday. Some evenings or weekends could be required based on department need.

Pay

$53,000/year
